Medicare Supplement Plans Florida

Supplemental insurance can help seniors in Florida cover those expenses that they may have trouble paying for out of pocket. When you add to your Original Medicare plan one of the Medicare Supplement plans, you can get a more complete coverage package. The Medicare Supplement plans Florida is offering can meet the needs of seniors who struggle to pay their medical bills.

A Medicare Supplement plan comes with coverage that can fill in those gaps left by Original Medicare. Let’s look at what medical benefits could be included in the Supplement plan you enroll in.

Medicare Supplement Plans Florida

The Medical Benefits of Supplements

Medicare Part A’s expenses- You can get coverage from your Supplement plan for the annual deductible for Part A services, for the copayments that are required whenever you go to the hospital, and for any hospice coinsurance costs.

Medicare Part B expenses- Many of the Supplement plans will cover you for Medicare Part B’s copayments, which would be required of you if you were to visit the doctor’s office or go to the emergency room, for example. You can also get coverage for the Medicare Part B excess charges, which are only required if you go for Part B services at a medical care facility where Medicare isn’t fully accepted. The other bit of Medicare Part B coverage is for the annual deductible of $198. However, the only Medicare Supplements that cover this item are those that are delisted, so it’s not very likely you’ll get this expense covered.

Blood Usage- If you require any blood during surgery or some other medical procedure, then Original Medicare is going to cover most of your blood use. In fact, it covers you for all but the first three pints of blood you use each year, and a Supplement plan could cover you for those three pints.

Nursing Care- If you need nursing services, then Medicare will cover you for some of it, but the Supplement plans will cover the remaining coinsurance for you.

Foreign Travel Exchange- You can get coverage to help take care of the cost of transportation for emergency medical care outside the US. Even if that foreign medical care is free, the transport to the medical facility might not be, and many of the Supplement plans in Florida can cover you for up to 80% each time you require this service. They top out at $50,000 in total coverage over your lifetime.

The Best Florida Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans Florida

In Florida you have a number of choices for Supplement plans. The lineup is the same as it is anywhere else, but you should know what is available. Once you look at your choices, you can make a more informed decision. We won’t go over all eight of the different Supplement plans that you could sign up for as a senior, but we do want to talk about a few of the more prominent ones, or those that most people sign up for. Odds are that one of them will be a good fit for you as well.

Plan G- Medicare Supplement Plan G is the top-selling supplementary plan right now. It will cover the majority of Medicare supplementary expenses, including all the Part A expenses, most of the Part B ones and the nursing coinsurance, three pints of blood and foreign travel exchange. What Plan G does is take care of most of your out-of-pocket medical expenses for you and make it easier to simply consolidate your healthcare costs. In Florida, this plan retails for around $170 a month. That is a bit higher than the national average, but it is still a pretty economical plan.

Plan N- With Supplement Plan N protecting you from excessive healthcare costs, you will be able to spend less on your insurance and hopefully less on your overall medical expenses. Plan N tends to retail for about $140 a month, making it considerably cheaper than Plan G. Under Plan N’s protection, you will be covered for all Medicare Part A expenses, a few of the Part B copayments, all of your nursing care coinsurance, blood usage and foreign travel exchange. It’s a fairly robust plan, especially for the price, and we think it is the most economical of all the supplemental coverage plans.

Plan F- For full supplemental coverage, there is Plan F. It covers every last supplemental expense, but it comes with one major drawback- this plan has been delisted. That means that it isn’t a Supplement plan that most people will be able to enroll in. Once it was delisted, the only people who could access it were those who were Plan F subscribers already. They could choose to stick with the plan through its delisting, but no one else could sign up for it. The reason for the delisting was because the cost of Plan F was way more than the value it was offering, in many cases. It is being sold at $192 a month, on average, but the only item of supplemental coverage it offers that Plan G does not is the single $198 Medicare Part B deductible. It doesn’t make sense to cover $198 at the cost of more than $250 a year. Of course, there are many different versions of Plan F, as each insurer selling the plan has their own prices set for it, but it is usually not a very economical plan.

Cigna

cigna

One of the advantages of choosing Cigna as your insurance company is that they are operating on an international level. How You Can Enroll

If you are looking to sign up for a Medicare Supplement plan in Florida, then you should be aware of what the enrollment rules are. You have to be 65 years old to qualify, in most cases. Those who want to qualify earlier will be able to do so only if they have disability. If your 65th birthday is approaching, however, you can send in your application for a Medicare Supplement up to three months ahead of your birthday month. Starting from that three-month period and ending three months after your birth month is an entire enrollment window known as Open Enrollment. This is definitely the best time for you to try to sign up, as you get the lowest prices and you get the assurance of guaranteed approval. The insurance companies cannot deny your application if you apply at this time.

Looking to apply later? You can do that, but you will have to wait for the annual enrollment period. This starts on October 15th every year and ends on December 7th. You can apply anytime during this period. Just be aware that your rates may be higher than if you applied during the Open Enrollment period. Your preexisting medical conditions can be a pricing factor during annual enrollment, and you can end up paying more than you might like.

Comparing Quotes to Cut Costs

We have told you about some of the prices being charged for Medicare Supplements in Florida. What you may not realize, though, is that each insurance company sets their own rates and can then change rates as they see fit. Now, once you enroll in a Supplement plan from any provider, your rates will be locked in. You will pay the same rate for the entire term, which usually lasts a year. But you want to be sure you are getting a good price initially. Why lock yourself into a health insurance plan with bad rates? We can help you to avoid that by giving you a way to source quotes quickly and accurately. You can get quotes that are up to date and relevant for where you live. The price of supplemental insurance will change based on where you live.

Every Florida insurance company that sells Medicare Supplements has freedom to choose their own prices and to decide which of the plans they want to sell to customers, but they cannot pick what kind of medical benefits each plan will cover. That is decided by Medicare alone. So, if you get Medicare Supplement Plan G in Florida from Cigna, you are getting the same coverage as you would if you were to buy it from Blue Cross Blue Shield. Even if the price is way different, the coverage remains the same. That guarantee enables you to go for the cheaper versions of these plans, because you can know for sure what kind of coverage you will be getting.
